It sounds as though your not quite aware of what an Armatus will become given the proper care ... they will easily reach 2 feet in length given the proper environment, and possibly over 3 feet ... its not a purchase to be taken lightly, requiring a huge tank, or heated pond within a few short years ... they can grow to over a foot in the first year, and although people consider them hardy, all payara are a difficult and fragile fish, that does best in soft acidic to neutral water, and needs a lot of water movement ... They do not do well with physical injury, as their skin is very sensitive, and are known to die from banging into things, thus a too small tank will result in issues .... they can eat huge meals, but also can be easily badgered by other fish, making tankmates difficult to find ... scombs generally dont get above a foot so are much more able to be housed by in an average sized tank, but are even more fragile, and often die for unknown reasons in a year
