I never knew so many people had a hard time with payaras. My scomb was my first fish (well second, I inherited and African bumble cat) and then came my prize vatf. But I had good teachers and did a ton of research, as I always do before getting an animal, and have a friend who uses RO. I get all of my change water from him and remineralize my water a bit heavier than instructions say. My fish are near flawless looking with the exception that my scomb took a beating recently. It is recovering slow but that's because I'm working on getting it off live or the use of live to a minimum. I also use a ton of driftwood in my aquariums and duckweed as a filtration and nitrate removal, hence heavy mineral adding. All is good, and haven't had a single problem with my scomb. As for armatus, I recently lost the only one im probably going to see in years where I'm at to a killer fungas, r.I.p fishy. Soft water indeed for payara.
