tank is 15' x 4' x 4' so just under 1800 gallons. Wood floors of our old house just could not hold the weight (we had to shore of the floor joists just for the 300 gallon tank), so we tore down the garage to build the new fish room. (Of course, we then needed a new garage)

Stand and tank have to be put in before the outside wall is finished.

Tank is going to be an in-wall tank. The stand and tank must fit through this opening which is 15' 2". So we have 1" on either side.

This is a DIY project with my husband and stepson doing the building...so things move slowly. Also, the rains didn't stop until almost June this year, which slowed things down even more.

Sweetest gate EVER.

Sweetest gate EVER.

Definitely a one of a kind gate since my husband designed and made it. A metal fabricator enlarged pictures of our pacu and used a plasma cutter to cut out our fish. Our fish are recognizable.

This is Adonis with the chunk of tail missing where Leonardo must have bit him.

This is Leonardo de Fishio who gets rambunctious after eating and starts chasing Adonis. He will forever be chasing Adonis on our gate.

After being powder coated, the fish have a mirror finish, so it's hard to get pictures with everything reflecting off of them.

I really like our ReeFlo Hammerhead pump that we use for mechanical filtration. It creates a very swift, strong current that our fish love. Here's an old video of a water change where we are pumping water back into the 300 gallon tank. We're going to do an expanded version on the big system we will be setting up---two Hammerheads for the mechanical and two Barracudas for the Ultimas. Right now on the 300 gallon tank, the Hammerhead is necked down to 1" pipe at the tank, so we are not getting the full benefit of the Hammerhead. Will be going with 1.5" pipe on the new system. We have no need of any other aeration devices with all the air the Hammerhead puts out. Really love this pump.

i want to know how greenterra gets his tank so dark almost black but the scales on his fish are so flourescent is this the light hes using ? id do it if i knew how. . . heres my tank anyway. .
:nilly:

The tank is 4' from front to back with black sides all around. I only run 3 x 48", 40W T8 18000k powerglos at the front half of the tank. IT illuminates the fish whilst allowing the background to fade away.;)

Nice tanks everybody!

My standard 300 TruVu 8'x24"x30"
I have plans next year to build a 1200g 8'x8'x30" plywood tank to give my babies more room.
Wow, and I thought my tank was overstocked...

Well I have been stalking this site quite awhile & thought this would be a great thread for my 1st post.

1st off, great thread op!

To pacu mom, looking forward to seeing pics of your project when it is all finished (love the pacu's on the gate).

And to all the great pics everyone posted, a lot of great ideas to be taken from these pics.

Here is my 220 gallon RR with custom extra tall stand with canopy. Under the canopy I have a 4' shop light with 50/50 T-8's. For filtration I went with the Marineland Model 4 sump (with Mag Drive 1800) & Filstar XP4.
Inside is my Mpimbwe Gibb. & Leleupi colony.

1st pics of before staining, after staining & initial set-up.
FYI: I had my 150 gal acrylic on stand while staining.
