If it looks overstocked, is it?...

I know what you mean, I always come across photos of members tanks who have a ton of giant fish that actually do bump into eachother in the videos
but I figure if they grew the fish out to that size and are keeping it happy they must be doing something right

You have to take into consideration the depth also, when seeing a picture or a vid from the front of a tank.. you can't always tell how much room there really is...

Excellent point.

Again, for me it all comes down to adequate filtration.

Does any one want to know, by names of the posters and their pix, what tanks I'm referring to? or not?......just didn't want to 'name names' on my opening post. Don't want to offend others, just was wondering though?......

that would've been helpful from the get go. i'm sure all of us think of different tanks when we think of large tanks. What i keep determines the areas of the site that i visit so when i see large tanks, they're usually single specimen tanks.

maybe you should atleast hint what type of fish or what area of the forum you're refering to

ps, adequate filtration doesn't mean jack to me if the tank is too small

I don't think I could adequitely keep most of the fish that MFKers love without a pond so when I see them crammed into a 500 or 300 gallon tank and not a several thousand gallon pond it worries me allot. If I had a 1,000 gallon tank it would have smaller cichlids not monster fish because I'd feel I could only keep 1 aro 1 cat fish and 5 or so filler fish. not enough personality for the electric bill every month for me. I really want to get an aro one day but I feel really far removed from that day. I don't think a pond in the midwest is a good idea unless you do koi.
