I know those are not real leaves in your tank, but why do people put real leaves in their tanks. It makes me want to get my net out and start cleaning.

The leaves release humic acids and acidify the water column, especially in small tanks. Leaves are often used for bottom dwelling soft water species to make them more confident and entice them to spawn. Apisto's, rams, geos, dwarf pikes etc..

I have had fish I spent months trying to get them to spawn and 24 hours after adding hardwood leaves where in a "sexy time" spawning frenzy.. Some people don't like the looks but I prefer ma nature style over crispy water and like to see my fish in their natural habitat.

^ I'm digging that light Jose! Mind sharing the details?
Thanks Justin! It's the famous Hampton Bay desk lamp. Sold at most Home Depot stores and comes with a 27w 6500k CFL bulb, all for about $20. These are wildly popular for small planted tanks.

Thanks for sharing that info. I was wondering why some people were doing.
