If blacks and silvers were the same price, would you ever buy a silver?

  • No way, I'd buy a black even if the price was higher.

Just a thought I had while reading the thread about crossing blacks and silvers, if blacks were as widely available as silvers and the same price, would anyone still buy silvers? To me the silver has always seemed like a cheaper and less attractive substitute for a black, to the point where I will probably never own another south american arowana unless someone starts importing blacks into NZ again. I hate the way drop-eye looks, and even with out it I just find the blacks far more attractive and graceful than silvers.

So, if every store that sold silvers had blacks at the same size and price available, would you still buy a silver?

The blacks are no more graceful than a silver, IME they're actually more skiddish. I think blacks are more attractive, but they're also a lot thinner/leaner than a silver. I love the look of a big old brute silver. It is too bad about the drop eye though. It does make them look a bit more primitive though I guess lol.

Long story short, they are both awesome.

Drop eye is the worst thing about silvers IMO.

2 lines...that qualifies as an epic.

I would still probably buy another silver aro.

if silvers had no drop eye and blacks were cheap, i would take the silver. blacks look nice when they're smaller, up to around 15". When aros get bigger and their tail finnage isn't as pronounced, silvers win hands down
