If you adopt a fish that is either stunted or kept in poor water conditions, will it still reach it's full adult size if it's introduced to a tank with proper water quality / tank size? This is more of a general question as I'm sure there are a lot of factors in play.

Just depends on age and how bad, if its a 5 year old stunted fish chances are it won't matter but if its still young a proper diet, space and clean water will help! NLS

I have a female convict that I picked up from petsmart. She was 2" when I got her over a year ago and she's 2" now. I thought she was just young, guess she was stunted.

I guess it just depends on the fish.

I have that same issue right now I adopted a 4" texas cichlid thats been in a 10g for 8months and it was about 1.5" when it first went in but i don't see any deformities or immediate issues so I'll just have to see if not then i have a midget texas :D

I had a female jag and a firemouth (unknown gender) that I recieved stunted. They were between a year to a year and a half and they both stayed stunted. Like the guys above said it probably depends on where the fish is in the development stage and any health considerations making it stunted
