Let minnow.

Okay, okay, I'm lame. We get it.

I am an avid fish keeper, been in the hobby for 15 years. Had a pool in my garage in Oklahoma for my red tail cats, whole nine. Due to my divorce I no longer have any monsters (or any fish for the matter) but in the next year I am restarting the hobby. Boyfriend is on board - though slightly intimidated by the tank sizes I rave about.

One of the main reasons that inspired me to join today is the hobby that I have been keeping myself busy with in the meantime - crochet. I am beginning to do some art installations featuring some of our favorite monsters and I figured this would be a much better photo resource than google any day!

I look forward to learning, offering advice and eventually having enough posts to upload a profile pic.

Do you have hobbies outside of fish keeping?

Sincerely,
Charlene

Welcome to MFK!
So what size is the tank that’s got the bo worried?

A simple 8x4x4 plywood lol. I assured him we would start with a standard glass 75(aka a 110 lol) because the intended inhabitant (marbled lung) will be alright in that for nearly a year during the plywood build. But I will probably upgrade even from there - I am a firm believer in having room to turn and exhibit normal behaviors. A 5ft+ fish in a 4ft wide tank makes me itch a bit.

8x4x4 you’re in the right place. You should look up some of the build threads. Lots of information

The pool that was in my garage was a 16ft circle - and that was just a growout for my red tails. I am no stranger to plywood builds, though I may take a new approach to this one to better suit the lungfish. Possibly not limit myself to plywood... But we will see what this poor man can handle as time goes on. lol

I will make a post once some of my creatures begin coming to life.... Big plans ahead!

Sadly I just admire them. My grandmother, great grandmother and my ex's great aunt all offered to teach me but have all passed since so I never got a chance to learn unfortunately and I don't know anyone else that can crochet.

But some of them are beautiful. I'm looking forward to see some of your fishy crochet! :D
