they are actually not poisonous. their saliva has bacteria in it and when they bite a prey, they chase the prey and following it for days/weeks until it dies from infection.

I'd have a mermaid that when on land and dried off, she turns human. And when she gets wet, she turns mermaid again. and she's hawt, hotter than Darryl Hannah and so in love with me. but we have to just be friends since i'm married. but she's patient, she'll wait until one day i'm divorced or something
