Hi Peter... Loved the vid... Nice looking fish.. Do you think they would work in my now smaller tank.. the 55?? I'm not sure yet what to put in there... Are their requirements the same as the orangeheads or can I go with cooler water.. I don't think the ohs would be happy in such a small tank... how about these guys? Congrats again and thanks for giving my ohs a good home... Sue

Good to have you back Sue!! I think they should do well in a 55 - they stay small (probably under 6") and are not particularly aggressive. I don't know what happened to the eggs - they were gone and I never saw any wigglers. They already spawned again and the same thing happened the second time :( May have to take the whole cave out next time.

Have you thought about a Gymnogeophagus tank?

Hi Peter,

Great fish! Did you get these from Ken around the time of the ACA? I think I got a pair as well...

I have mine in a 2x2x1' tank with some Gymnogeos. They keep righting an overturned flowerpot (so it sits on its base vs. on its side). Think I should cut out a piece out of the side and turn it on the open side (mouth)?

At what temp do you keep them? Mine are at room temp in my fishroom (~74) and are plenty active..

Matt

Thanks Matt!

I got them from Ken quite recently - right before he left for Uruguay. They are in the big tank and doing surprisingly well with bigger (wimpy) tank mates - they actually took over the right side of the tank. They are not aggressive at all...maybe the other fish just don't like that spot :D Water is at ~80F.

They definitely like/need caves. I've used a clay mug on its side with another group of Guianacara and they loved it.
