I am sure that there are many that have invested more than $5000 in this hobby.
Our other hobby is cutting horses. I sold one a year ago for $35,000. A new truck and horse trailer? $75,000 and up. Many in this hobby have < $100,000 in just their truck.
Sure there are better things people could do with their money. That is always the case.

Oh and I think I would build a ray tank in the basement. And then a Gazebo, aeration, and koi for my farm pond.
