Hello!

The dream of my life is creating a zoo. I have neither money nor ressources - I only have my dream and my will to succeed. However, my will is STRONG! If I can, I will make my dream of a zoo come true. And for a zoo I would need fish and aquaria.

My personal experience is primarily with birds (I have planned that if my zoo ever came to become real, it would include for instance Kea, Lear's Macaw and Black Palm Cockatoo). Therefore, I need some "nerds" to help me with the fish part.

The zoo is so far ONLY a dream, and even a far-fetched one. However, I have the will to succeed, I have a dream, and I won't stop 'till it's done!

Wanna be my fish geek? You aren't obliged to anything, it won't cost you money, and you can quit anytime you want. If you want to be a part of a possible zoo of tomorrow, post a reply for which species of fish and/or which biotopes you would use in a zoo. You could also, if you wanna "join the gang", e-mail me at freia.b@gmail.com.

Oh, and a bit of info about the zoo (I have LOTS of ideas, but these are the main three points):

* Located in Denmark
* Primarily or exclusively indoors
* Deals with the species/biotopes that are sadly forgotten by most zoos, aquaria and hobbyists, or are either uncommon or rare

Thank you for your reply!

You have an awesome dream, my friend! Dont forget me when you finally create a zoo. Maybe I'll pm you a couple of years from now when I finish my degree in Biology. Aim big!

I'll come over the border with a few hundred fish when you are ready to stock:D

In all seriousness, MFK is the best place to find out about whatever fish you plan to acquire. If you have any questions feel free to ask us :)

It would be perfect to welcoming the rescued fishes that needs a home!

My first question is: Which biotopes? I plan on having both marine and freshwater, and possibly one or two (or ten, or...) brackish tanks as well.

I am certain on the following topics:

Amazon River - a much used biotope, but I'll show the fish people tend to forget about.

Cichlids - more a group of fish than a biotope, but well, cichlids are more or less synonymous with Lake Malawi, Tanganyika and Victoria as well. Possibly rare or unknown fish from this area? And what about other cichlids, which will also be in the Cichlids topic/area?

Cold Freshwater - since you're from Germany, you might know some interesting fish native to Europe or other temperate freshwater areas. Perhaps Lake Baikal or Lake Biwa?

Cold Marine - again, welcome to the temperate waters! Interesting species/biotopes here? Kelp Forest certainly is one!

Tropical Sea & Coral Reef - one of these much used biotopes. Which reefs and fish could I use that people haven't seen before?

Tropical Freshwater - various tropical freshwater biotopes that are neither African lakes nor Amazon River. Any suggestions?

What's wrong with North American biotope and Asian biotope, they have odd creatures. You can do some biggest predatory fish such as Nile Perch, Murray Cod or Barramundi

Could you please name me some of the creatures (fish and inverts) from North America and/or Asia? Perhaps even one or more outlines for a tank setup? I'm interested:D

Eastern Asia is generally not different to Europe and NA. Pike, Zanders and Burbot being predatory species with Silurus sp. Being the apex predator.
