If you had a public aquarium, which fish would you exhibit?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I haven't visited many public aquaria in Europe, but if you want a good example of "doing it right" you must see the Berlin Aquarium. Very cool and well set out displays!

If it were me I would have to have a large Amazon "flooded forest" display. But there are many other interesting areas to show off, African rift lake, Asian white water stream, etc etc. There are interesting fish from all over the world, many options that could be a point of difference to other public displays. How many have you seen in the Northern Hemisphere with New Zealand natives like the Giant Kokopu?

Eastern Asia is generally not different to Europe and NA. Pike, Zanders and Burbot being predatory species with Silurus sp. Being the apex predator.
I don't think that is correct. Here its too different from Europe and Eastern Asia.

In NA, Alligator gars are apex predators next to the muskellunge, flathead catfish and blue catfish. Then there's bowfin, some gars, walleyes, black bass, stripers, buffalo fishes, American eel, pikes, large predatory squawfish, sturgeons and paddlefish. You can have indoor trout ponds, full of trout.

As for Asia, there are different areas. It could be tropical or subtropical or coldwater.

If asian arowana is legal in your country
A big school of asian arowana would be great with leoploldies stingray I don't know how to spell with a big school of masheers lol

Thank you for all the replies!

Does anyone know of any cool inverts? Can cuttlefish, nautiluses, squids and octopuses even be kept in captivity? Are there other cool inverts I should know of?

Also, besides a kelp forest, what could I show in the saline sections (brackish, temperate marine, tropical marine, coral reef)?

Of course just continue with the ideas rolling in! I write every suggestion down and look into every single one of them!

PS: It would make my life a bit easier if you could tell how much space you would recommend for a certain species/biotope

A tank dedicated to bikini babes :grinyes:

Lol on a serious note, I would defintly pay a visit to see a tank of a bull shark in it the habitat of freshwater. Where you can place all kinds of native fish that live with the bull shark during the times of its visits in freshwater

Yes you are absolutely right. What I meant was NE Asia/ NW America (Alaska etc.) In the warmer states the fauna is of course very, very different to Eurasia.

It would be perfect to welcoming the rescued fishes that needs a home!

Pangasius hypothalamus most abused fish in india... My local pet store is selling 50 -100 fish a month, very cheap and easy to get... Ordinary fantail goldfish for 50 rupees and iridescent shark pair is just 20 rupees... School kids buy 2 pairs nd keeping all those 4 in 5 gallon tank...
