We have these guys in Manteca, CA... we live in the country and there all over the place.... I make sure to tell my son to NEVER try and catch any spider or snake that he finds in the yard.

I don't think it's the spider, many times people go to the hospital not ever having seen what bit them or if they were even bitten at all. Few of these necrotizing wounds can be proven to be from a spider.
the map that was shown i believe to be not entirely correct. i wouldnt be surprised if the brown recluse was in every state...........so much stuff is shipped form southern states to all over (produce) that it would be foolish to think that they arent found in chicago or detroit. in wi there are reports of black widows being found in a few grocery stores in milwaukee that were brought it with the produce. i myself have seen one of these.
