Iguana care info. needed

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I rescued an iguana from a cold, empty 50 long a few years ago. He grew like mad in the three years I had him, but I never handled it much so it was never really tame.

One food that hasn't been mentioned is yams. My wife made ours a huge salad twice a day (maybe that's why the dang thing grew so fast). A lot of collard, mustard greens, kale, etc. plus grated yams was his usual.

I kept mine in a 5 x 3 x 6 enclosure, it was getting too small when I adopted him out.

This was good info. I was thinking of getting my son a baby from the pet store this afternoon. Not sure if I want to do that now or not due to the cage sizes required.

Dont forget also about agression toards keepers by mature male iguanas and egg laying problems by female iguanas ,both during breeding season and all the amout of care they need:grinno: Now seriously green iguanas are not for children or novice keepers. Bearded dragons, leopard geckos ,blue tongue skinks and corn snakes are much bether choices. But again reserch extensivly on any species you want to buy and prepare for being the main care giver;)
