Hi, I was wondering the growth rate of Iguanas? How long would one last in a 120g (60x18x26) before up grading the size of enclosure and are they generally aggressive or fairly tame?

Hmm...they grow pretty darn fast when they are cared for properly. While I'll say that your tank doesn't offer much height, it is still adequate for housing a young iguana until it is approximately 1.5 yrs old. At that age, it will likely be around 3 ft long and you will definitely need to have more spacious housing ready for it.

On the issue of their temperment, I'd say its variable. My general advice is you're going to get out of it what you put into it. The more time and interaction you give your iguana as a juvenile, the more tractable it will be as an adult. Lord knows no one wants a 6 ft irritable iguana on their hands. However, keep in mind, that every iguana has a different personality and some just don't like to be handled as much as others.

I definitely suggest reading the Ultimate Iguana Manual

:iagree:

Good info here, especially the part about reading the book.
As long as you are committed to your iggy, you will (normally) get a great pet out of it (some exceptions), but unfortunately most people don't give them enough effort. But, just because the majority do that, doesn't mean you have to. Some of the coolest herps I've been around are well cared for iguanas. I'd love to have one myself, but I can't dedicate the time and space to them right now. :(

from what i've heard, iguanas have REALLY fast growing rates and would most likely grow out of that before you could get the money to get a new terrarium.

Most have been said:D Most igs tend to have a kind of "Garfieldish" cat like aproach to life. In one moment they are the tamest lizard, in another they are a monster from hell. They will aproach you when they need to. Most are very assertive of what they like or not and they dont want "thouse silly bipedal mamal things" to interfere in their lifes. However be worned that one of the first steps needed to make a agressive iguana is to keep them in a glass tank. Most hate that:grinno: The thing I learned makes most igs really happy is a sunny window in a room to free roam:D
They have their soft side;) They can be friendly, tamable, trainable, cute and even playfull(BUT must be on their terms:naughty:)
But also they can be EXTREMELY studborn, agressive and unpredictable. During breeding seazon most males igs became very agressive to the point of being dificult to clean their cages. In my opinion the best ig you can get is a esterilazed female in a rescue center, all the sweetness of female ig without the hurrys of egg laying problems:D

alot of the iguanas i have seen are always agressive.. i have a large adult and he is puppy dog tame. ive had him for about 6 years now and ive never been bit of tail whipped..

my local herp shop had a large adult and he was evil. its hit or miss with them. you can spend all the time in the world with them and you could still end up with a monster.
