Iguana??

I believe most iguanas are farm bred in central or south america. The climate is warm enough to simply leave them outside year round. Are you looking at buying one? Many need rescuing from bad homes, it would be a nice thing to look into first.

Ok...ill check reptile rescues,on the other hand it's my son that wants one so far he's shown to be a pretty good salamander keeper...lol
His water dog is a trip...well tiger salamander now

Iguanas are one of the more demanding and difficult reptiles to keep. Specialized diet, light, temperatures, humidity and large enclosures. I've had 3 over a period of 22 years. All of them lived very well but it was certainly a lot more work then any of my past reptiles. In the USA I've not found any place that was 100 % able to keep outside. Be sure you and your son do your homework up front before getting one. They do get big. Mine all got enormous. Length of over 8ft body diameter over 6 inches. And yes they have a large mouth with lots of Sharp teeth. Ask me how I know. Its not if they bite its when. Not trying to discourage just definitely do lots of homework first. Make sure its right.

do lots of research 1st.. there are a lot in rescues for a reason.. too many impulse buys.. adults need huge inclosures

I had an iguana from hatching to an adult for 15 years. I will never go through that again. Like mentioned they are a LOT of work and have very specific diets and it can be a pain to find the proper veggies out of season for them.

Thanks to all info is greatly appreciated.... I'm sure I could use a refreshing course in Iguana, but have had 2 before... My daughter wanted some when she was little,19 now but anyway yea they were fun and proper diet wasn't to hard to find. And one thing I won't forget is they do bite and whip their tails... But still was fun ours went to some of my buddies as my daughter got in her teens and noticed the popular girl didn't walk around with iguanas....LOL my son I'm sure he will do fine I told him 1-2 months study before he can get 1..... Thanks Again You Guys Rock With Knowledge :-)

Having kept them 10 or 15 years ago may help you only a little bit, as the husbandry of Iguanas and monitor lizards in captivity has changed quite a bit in the last 10 years.

Its not that there diet is hard to find, any good supermarket should carry dark leafy greens, which is the base of there diet.
Its going to the store 2 or 3 times a week to get fresh veggies, coming home and chopping them up, and feeding.
Its keeping up this routine for the next 15 or 20 years thats the hard part.
