Iguanas or Ball pythons

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
We love our Ball python and are even entertaining a new one!!

This thread seems kind of "down" on iguanas...to be honest I think they're excellent animals and very rewarding. They're not "bad" pets by any means but they are pretty demanding. Huge custom enclosure that you'll most likely want/need to build yourself, pretty specific dietary requirements, and yes, as elevatethis said they can actually physically hurt you as adults. A lot of large snake keepers will advise people considering a big boid like a rock, burm, or retic to try to handle/interact/care for an adult firsthand before getting one, and I think that's probably wise with large lizards like igs, monitors, tegus etc as well. It's sort of funny how monitors and tegus have sort of a "rep" for aggression and being difficult, where in actuality (at least in my own experience) iguanas can be much more difficult than a monitor of comparable size.

if u want a lizzard get a bearded dragon
this is my first and only lizzard
and so far hes easy to care for
snake wise
i dont no much
but i also want a ball python
i wish i cud get one

Beardeds are great and balls are great.I like iggys but I think they should be kept after learning the ins and outs of lizard care over time.If you get one that dosnt want to tame down it can get you kind of down at times.Depends if your looking for an outgoing interactive animal. If given a large space then iggys are much more enjoyable I think.Beardeds are very social with less space required however if you can even give them more room they can be 10 times more fun too. They will thank you for it with more natural character habits.By the way, your oscar is indeed cool.Mine always got hole in head and I never fed live food. They were in a 125 with 3 404 fluvals. What gives man.I love them but Im afraid to ever do it again?

oh and on the bp.They will become your snake best freind because once tame down they become the most tolerating snake Ive had other than corns.Mine let me pic sheds from its face and things like that almost like it knew I was helping it.They just have special humidity requirements and can off feed in winter and scare you a bit.Always a water bowl, warm temps, hide box, regular feeding, burrowing substrate, proper humidity and you should be good.Ive kept herps for over 15 years and will have a bp again some day.good luck.

iguanas are great in my opinion. mine has a great temperment. has never tail whipped, doesnt bite, he's "puppy" dog tame in a way..

research alot since they require alot of care and attention. make sure you have the room to house something of an iguana as well. also look into adopting an iguana. help one that needs a home. thats what i did. if i ever get another one thats what i will do again
