The melafix should not have hurt the fish maybe the fish was too far gone. Its all natural so unless you used the wrong dosage I doubt is was the Melafix

So's arsenic, just because something is natural we shouldn't assume it's harmless?

Melafix is based on melaleuca tea tree extract as an active ingrediant. The active ingredients in tea tree oil have a similar structure and action as turpentine.

it was about maybe 1/2-3/4 gal. and i added little less then 1/2 one of the top thing on the melafix

update: raised the temp in the tank added salt and now he is doing fine

and that melafix smells odd!

A little less than half a capfull is a little less than a 10 gallon dose.
Big time overdose.

i put melafix in my fiance's 10g tank for her guppies. a couple has the cotton fungus growth and the salt wasn't working so i bought melafix and put in 1 cap ful 10ml the correct dosage for the gallons i have and now all my fish are acting funny
some guppies swim ato the bottom and lay on their side and the rest literally float at the top. the lights are off and their sleeping but i scared to see what happens in the morning. is this behavior normal?

One capfull is a 20gal. dose.

Half the cap is for 10 gallons! Sounds like OD to me.

i dont like melafix it uses alot per gallon and ive only got a 120gal tank never mind some of the monster tanks on this site
this might be incorrect but a 10,000 gal tank would need 9.246gal of melafix for its 7day recommended treatment

I just used melafix for the first time, My 6" pleco banged the base of his tail somehow which became a red lump probably half the size of a grain of rice. I put him in a 20ltr(5g) tank with a tablespoon of salt, 2.5ml of melafix and temps at 28degC(82F). After 3 days, lump and redness is gone, going to finish the course to make sure its totally healed.

I'm very happy with melafix (used with salt and higher temps)

I have used melafix pimafix and salt. I prefer the salt treatment although i never had a problem with the melafis/pimafix.

Half of the cap on my bottle is for 5 gallons.
a full cap is for 10 gals.
It was just an overdose.
No biggie, we've all done it.
