The same thing happend to my 1.5 year old 6 inch angel fish last year, He didn't make it and even after I pulled the body out, the belly was still bloated. I wish the best for your oscar.

Sorry about your angel fish. thanks.

Hope your oscar makes it. It seems like my JD is going through the exact same thing, Swollen stomach, no eating and a low activity.

ill keep you updated to see if there is an progress in my oscar.

I had a Firemouth and a Discus that happened to. The Firemouth stayed the same for over a year, till I traded her in. Always thought she was just pregnant. My Discus on the other hand died in a week.

Starve for a week and dose "Epsom" salt as apposed to aquarium salt. It looks bloated. Hopefully it will be fine. You will need to help her though. She can not do anything from here. She may not make it however and you should know this kind of thing happens. Good luck with her.

No need for all the links. The cure was given here at MFK on post 2......Oddball made a sticky as well in the disease and health forum. Not rocket science, it can be defeated. If you have not started treatment, you need to fast...

no improvement on the fish.... now she is swimming vertical.... we've tried epsom salt, clout, peas, and metronidazole she looks even worse now... i think it maybe something wrong with her swim bladder... any help would be greatly appreciated she is also breathing heavily now...

I really doubt that it is Malawi bloat as someone suggested, that is usually associated with Malawi cichlids that are herbavores and they have to much protien in their diet. Oscars are carnivorous though so Malawi bloat would not be the problem. I really agree with *bigspizz*, you should try fasting, don't offer the fish any food and see if that helps. How often do you do water changes on the tank, there is another disease that causes the belly to swell and that is dropsy, it is sually caused by poor water conditions. I saw the pictures though and the scales are not protruding. With dropsy the belly will swell and the scales will protrude making the fish look like a pine cone. I have never seen dropsy in a large fish, usually with smaller fish like mollies and tetras. It could also be internal basteria infection or a blockage in the fish caused by a peice of gravel. Either way you should try fasting the fish, if you end up loosing it, you can always do an autopsy afterward and see if it was some kind of blockage. Sorry to hear about your Oscar.

thanks for the advice... my water is usually tip top, i thought it was the gravel once but i dont think so anymore...she has fasted for about 2 weeks now :( and no improvement.... there are a few others that were with her in her 125 and none have any problems... i've tried the parasite meds and bacteria meds and salt and temp and now she looks worse.... heavy breathing and more bloated looking...she went down in size a little then she ballooned up again.... so i'm in the middle of re trement with clout
