I could never want to own a snakehead, or any illegal fish. I would always be in fear of f&w showing up at my door. I am glad to see you one to respect the laws.

if someone does show up at your door, ask to see their search warrant. (which they probably wont bring at the time). if they dont have one, you dont have to let them inside. also, they'll be back with a warrant in a few days, giving you enough time to send your snakeheads over a friends' house for a bit. :D

They won't wait a few days. The F&W officers simply call the local PD to watch you while F&W gets the warrant. Then, you get the "extra special" treatment for making them jump through hoops.

I am posting this because it seems that as members find out I live in Canada, and can keep Snakeheads in house, they think that I am willing to send to a location where they are outlawed. I dont care if you are a legit member or a cop posing as one. If you state does not allow you to house them (hense cant purchase them) what makes you think someone is going to take a chance and send one down.
Look at it this way
Animals are banned from places for a reason! Why would you like a potentially dangerous animal to live in your house? (other than the COOL factor) Snakeheads are banned because they will devour an entire lake on our side of the world!! Would you want your nieghbour keeping a croc in his back yard pond? knowing darn well that if it escaped it could eat your dog, or destroy the enire wildlife area simply because they are not orig from that area but could survive. Look at some of the snakes in florida!!! Eating Crocodiles!! Some moron drops it off in the back thinking hey it wont survive long but a few years later after it found the other one dropped off by the other moron down the street, Now there are hundreds of them that shouldn't have survived. but they do and now giving the real king of the area a run for its money

I know I am going a little over board but I see these posts of people asking for them and then other members blaming them for being Narcs. If you want to keep an illegal animal in your house it is up to you but I dont think any DECENT member will get you one knowing the consequenses.

If you want a snakehead and it is ok to keep in your area, well... you should be able to order it from your LFS.

I WONT SEND IT TO YOU UNTIL YOU PROVE TO ME THEY ARE OK TO KEEP!!!!!

Thanks
My bitter 2 cents worth
You tell them Canadbis! If someone wants one badly enough to risk breaking federal laws let them do their own smuggling, all they have to do is take a shopping trip, why should you risk serious consquenses for unknown strangers? As for snakeheads being safe, I think that any fish that is kept responsibly is safe but there are so many great legally obtainable fish out there why take risks like that just for bragging rights?

The importation of snakeheads into the U.S. is prohibited under the Lacey Act. I found the following summary of the Lacey Act enforcement and penalty provisions that could apply to the importation of snakeheads, as taken from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service website:
Enforcement Provisions of the Lacey Act

The Act sets fines for violations involving imports or exports, or commercial violations in which the value of the wildlife exceeds $350. Fines for misdemeanor violations are currently set at a maximum of $100,000 for individuals and $200,000 for organizations. Maximum fines for felonies are presently $250,000 for individuals and $500,000 for organizations.

Officers enforcing the Lacey Act may carry firearms; make arrests; search and seize; issue subpoenas and warrants; and inspect vessels, vehicles, aircraft, packages, crates, and containers on arrival or departure from the United States. The law authorizes rewards for information leading to arrests, criminal convictions, civil penalties, or forfeiture of property, and for payment of costs of temporary care for fish, wildlife, or plants needed for court proceedings.
In other words, the importation of snakeheads into the U.S. is a federal offense and a "big deal" in terms of potential penalties. Anyone asking you to take that risk simply has no clue as to the severity of potential penalties. :(

hey, at least you can still work out in a federal prison. id much rather go to a federal prison than state prison. i know people who been to both and federal is the way to go!!!! so at least you wont be in a state pen if you get caught....oh yeah, bubba resides at both places so the weak are NEVER safe. keep that in mind. hahahah

sending them across national borders is big trouble.\

just remember folks if you keep illegal fish "rays, sh, piranna" all it takes is one angry freind or exgirlfriend or neighbor to make one phone call and you just spent $5000 and at least some time in lockup and a **** load of time in coart. is it really worth it to have a snakehead if you want one that bad move to canada
this also aplies to drugs or anything else illegal you keep
