Im from Australia to...and its a pain... but check this out, its the official site.

http://www.environment.gov.au/biodiversity/trade-use/exoticfish/index.html

Take a look at that PDF file... you will get all your questions answered :)

I believe one of the major reasons they ban certain fish, is because Australia had REALLY NICE tropical weather and water in certain places, where these fish could actually survive...

Especially piranhas.... there was an issue with this a few years ago. Anyway, you will realize they ban most of the aggro fish, that go on killing sprees...

Im not sure why they ban other species of arowana and stuff though...

just curious... why would they ban aro's in aus?

Aros are banned from importing. BUT local breed ones are a grey area. Local arowana species are fine to own jardini / leichardti
Aros are banned because the idiotic government bureaucracy. Because there is a demand for this species in Australia, there is be a market.

iand as a side note thnk fnck Garrett didnt get his way he wanted to put more fish on the banned list including oscars WTF

was talking to one of the guys from the fish shop at Rocklea in Brissie a while ago when I was looking for a Dovii or Jag and he was saying they have been trying for years to get oscars on the no import list but there is too huge a demand for fresh bloodlines for it to ever happen, too many people would be very upset if it happened as there is a fair bit of coin invested into oscar breeding in Aus.
