Flathead cats aren't on the list? Someone needs to start exporting!

Why would channels be named but not other types of cats?

Maybe because they can tolerate the cold temps in Japan better than other cats. Considered an invasive species perhaps?

Well, Channels were introduced to Japan as the possible candidate for fish-farming, but like A-Team, they promptly escaped from maximum security facilities, but didn't go underground. Their population boosted in the late 1990s. Wanted by the Japanese Government, they survive as the invasive species.;)

Although other Ictalurisae species are not listed, traders hesitate to import them for the possibility they might get included in the future.
Thanks!

If I was born and raised there then yes, just saying I couldn't move there.

So, you like keeping the native fish, huh? In my opinion, that's the best type of aquarium 'cuz you get to see their actual habitats and re-capture the natural scene at your home. That will lead to the deeper understanding of your local environment and eventually the passion to conserve the precious wildlife in your area. It's definitely a grass-roots yet very patriotic!
Peace!
