Is it some fish or all fish? I know that plecos from the Xingu rivers in Brazil has just been open for exporting after from a 10 year banned. As far as SA in general, fish absolutely are currently being exported from Brazil
I spent quite a bit of time searching for information that states that the commercial exportation of fish is banned in Ecuador (I went to school in Quito 16 years ago and plan to return soon). I came up with nothing. I do know that fish were being exported from there as recently as two years ago, but I don't know what is going on currently. Also, there are a couple companies on the web that say they export fish from Ecuador, but I was unable to contact them.
As far as SA in general, fish absolutely are currently being exported from Brazil, Peru, Venezuela, Colombia, Uruguay, and possibly other countries.

Not sure about Plecos, but there are plenty of wild-caught discus and crenicichla advertised as being from Brazil. I imagine most countries have regulations banning harvest of certain species or from certain areas, but outright export bans not so much. I really am curious about Ecuador, because if the wife and I go back (we met there) I would love to visit a fish wholesaler.
Here you go. I'm not sure if this for commercial exportation but this is what i found.
