  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think its just Sp. only. pikes, plecos and any other fish but cichla are exported to the states and else where. sad for us cichla and ray folks (I guess). :(

I know their is a ban on rays like you said. Hyrstixs are soon going to endangered due to exporting.

I've seen this, but to me it really doesn't mean anything. I doubt if many countries will let you leave with wildlife or parts thereof in your suitcase. Also, this is the only "proof" anyone has ever offered that fish exportation is banned in Ecuador. I did some rather extensive searching of the Ecuadorian fisheries and natural resources websites and came up with nothing.

I know what you mean I've done alot of searching myself. Never really found anything but that. That's why I wrote that thread i linked in my first post. No one really knows the truth. My guess is you wouldn't really know till you get there. I don't know how true it is but I've that if you get caught collecting wild fish that you will be shoot on the spot.

I don't know about collecting, but there are virtually no regulations on freshwater sportfishing and no license required.

Like you said, I think you would have to go there and ask around. It's not even that there are Ecuadorian fish I really want, but we plan to go there to visit some old haunts and see a friend or two, and I would like to at least see some cool fish even if I don't ship any home. I also agree that nobody seems to know the truth for sure, but that certainly hasn't stopped the arguments over "F0" fish... :nilly:

I am by no means saying that I know exporting fish from Ecuador is legal, but I have yet to see convincing proof that it is illegal.

Yeah I've never seen anything on sport fishing so I think you'll be ok. You could maybe find out thru a wildlife fish and game association. I don't know what it would be called out there. I agree as long as there is no solid proof that it is or isn't illegal the arguments will continue.
