I'm 14! Resume help?

 • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You MIGHT be correct, I'm not really sure. Maybe a 14 yearold can be hired for work in the USA. I always thought that a working kid had to be at least 16. But, let's say you're correct. It's up to that manager as to if he wants to hire a 14 yearold. Most 14 yearolds are a liability for a company. I have to say that most managers would hire an older applicant over a 14 yearold. The only way you can get hired is to over impress that manager. I hope you have the discipline and maturity to do that. For starters, make a resume, even if you have not worked before. Create it and tell him what you have done that translates into a skillset that would impress the manager enough to hire you. Also, include school and community activities.

Both my kids were able to work summer jobs as 14 year olds at a local water amusement park. Though they did both turn 15 within the summer.

You have too look at the employers point of veiw, a 14 y.o. kid is not going to be a very good prospect, so best you could hope for is just a few hours a week.

Lol, uve been doing some reasearch on the government page. That doesnt really matter. That is the minium age. Companies dont have to hire you. Most companies wouldn't hire you until you are 16+. Cause thats when they think people are more responsible. Like big al's i think you need to be 25 to workt here cause of insurance.

exactly....its not about the government, its about the companies policy. Im not saying its not illegal to work there, im saying that petsmart wont hire becuase of their policies

Minimum Age A child of age 14 is permitted to work at any place other than a factory. A child of 15 is allowed to be employed in construction or factory other than logging operations, if excused from school under the education act. A child of 16 is permitted to work at a surface mine (excluding the working face) or mining plant and in construction. A person of age 18 can work at an underground mine or surface mine, doing work off shore for an oil or gas rig.

I don't think petsmart's a factory, so I think that means I'm good to go.

I've heard some good points, and chances are I still won't get a job, but I'd always like to give it a try. Worst comes to worst, I don't get the job and I'll have to apply somewhere else, with a ready resume. If I do, it's only a 15 minute walk away, maybe 30 in the snow, transportation isn't really an issue. I keep up straight As and I know more about fish than the average shmoe. I'm gonna look up that online resume thing. Thanks for all the input.

A resume provides qualifications, training, job history, and references. Being you only real experience is school, this will be what an employer will base their consideration on. If you are a excellent student, your chances will improve over that of an average student.

Something else you may look into is doing volunteer work. This will not result in immediate pay, but will give you references as to your work ethic for future job you will be applying for.

references and experience....ask your parents if they know any business owners and try to get in with them so they can right a reference about you

right on your resume that you are 16 and say i told you to do it. you will thank me later when you get the job.
