Sorry for the same questions, but when the lay eggs should I leave them in the tank, thats what I have been hearing that the mothers will protect them good????

oh yes. i use to breed convicts in my 55gal. I had 2 pairs and when one pair would lay eggs, which they did over & over & over, they would block off half of the tank not letting any other fish come even close! its very neat to watch..

Haa I am the same way about W/C's. I added the heater and the tank warmed up a bit. WOW, I cant believe you have 9 in a 15 gallon, awesome. You left them alone and you have the 9 adults, and the 100 fry in the 20?

i took one of the nine out because she was getting bullied to much and she was the only one that didn't have a mate. i put her in my predator tank.. shes still alive!! i have never fed my rays and bichirs feeders before so their just ignoring the convict. its weird cuz they eat everything else, but wont touch feeders! usually people have the opposite problem...

its hard to tell if new born convicts are eating, just make sure they have access too food that's small enough to fit in their mouths. i.e. baby brine shrimp, powdered flakes/pellets.

put pellets in a zip lock bag and get a rubber mallet and smash the $hit out of it! u may have to change the bag a few times, because of tears.

you can buy fry food but its pretty much the same as using regular flakes but finer. and the babies will eat it off the bottom. you really dont have to do much the parents will take good care of their babies. just make sure they arent anywhere close to the filter they will get sucked up!! i thought one of the other cons in my tank were eating the babies (which im sure they were) but i went to clean my filter a month or so after some babies were born and there were a bunch swimming around inside the filter!!!

I will also buy a sinking pellet and crush that maybe it will sink faster.

Ok well.......... Im back.......... Here is the scoop......................

The other convict pair ended up constantly trying to eat the youngins and over time they got them all. Now all the convicts are hanging on the left side of the tank togather and looks like the gave up on breeding for me.

Here is what I am thinking, I want a 30 gallon tank FULL of guppies, mollies, fancytails, just a lot of livebearers. A few holding cells overhanging the wall of the tank, when they get really pregnant place them in the cell. I am talking FULL, I know that it will take time for them to grow to eating size but I think that the litters will catchup and soon I will have a good supply.

Or should I put the convicts in the 30 with more room they may be more successful?

I have a 10 gallon tank with quarentining shrimp and feeders. A 20 gallon tank with the convicts, and an empty 30 gallon. TELL ME HOW TO BREED FOOOOOOODDDDDDDD????????????????

No feedback, well I gave the bigger obnoxious pair to the LFS.

Now I have a pair that laid 2 batches of eggs and a dither fish.

BY GOD THEY'VE DONE IT AGAIN!!!

This time there isnt a peskie pair of traider conviect to eat them, just mom, dad, and a goldfish. WAYY MORE THAN THE FIRST BATCH........

I was just having thoughts of taking the tank down also, but lets wait and see.
