Get a nano cube.JBJlighting makes them in 12 gallons and now a 24 gallon. You c an buy them on line for less than $300.00.Current also makes a 24gal nano cube.Kent Marine makes a few productys just for nano cubes. That Fish Place.com,sells the 12gal saltwater nano for $189.99,Cerrents 24galAquapod is$299.99.

You'll be fine. Just make sure to let the tank cycle completely first. It will take 6-8 weeks. Check your params daily until they are all at 0. The live rock and live sand should speed it along some. You can also drop an old piece of shrimp in there to speed up the process. But with the live rock and sand, you shouldn't have to. Keep the filter going as well and it should be fine. You couldn't get many fish in there, maybe a clown, but that's about it. You will need frequent water changes though. Good luck.

not be be flaming but i dont understand why people start so small with saltwater tanks

its alot harder and more expensive in the longrun

plus, a water volume of that size mean a very unstable water parimeter and temperature and sea organisms have evolved to live in an environment where there is VERY little to no change in water chemistry or temeprature, and being only 5 gallons, and it being your first salt tank, you put everything in that nano cube at risk.

and the truth is that nano cubes are suppose to be meant for the advanced marine aquarist.
