if anyone has noticed i havent been posting alot lately. its because ive been batteling crazy diseases in alot of my tanks. mainly my two main ones 125 and 55. i can brush off ich and fungus and worms like nothing. but this current issue has me lost and frustrated. im hoping someone here can guide me to answer on saving my fish. details:
125: Recovered from ich fine. then some fish developed this look to there scales like if there were patches of scales that had starded fading. almost as if the scales were detaching from flesh like a scab. (not to be confused with dropsy) . then some (and only) of the smaller fish developed swollen lips which led to death withing the next day. (ive done some research on ducklip disease with no definitive answers) i doseed this tank with parasite clear two doses. parameters are fine. nothing has been introduced into this tank in terms of decor. i have however introduced local canal fish.
cont.....

Then you should ask us for help.. sorry your having such trouble.. hope things turn around..

My dad just had a mystery disease that involved puffy lips as well. He lost 5 fish in the end. I don't understand how the others were unaffected and it was so sudden. I'd love to hear what some of the experts have to say.

continued. sorry my phone limits my typing space. so...
55G: this is the hardest one. the fish haD ich and recovered.. all fish were also dewormed before. fish were doing fine. then fish began waking up dead. so i watched...no aggression, no injuries no noticable disease. so fish go from what ive seen to be perfectly normal, no injuries, no spots, no ich, no velvet, no lethargy, no bloating, no irradic swimming, no rapid breathing, no flashing no anything. in a matter of a sec. the fish is on the floor not swimming or at the top not moving much then bam dead. ive been in this hobbby for a loooooooong time. this is a first for me. ive dealt and treated tons of things. but im at a lost. i also treated this tank with slat and heat for a while, didnt work, also now have been on second dose of parasite clear. still losing fish. again no new decor no introduction of chemicals nothing. parameters are fine. so please mfk any help would be great especially aymore information on duck lip disease.

what are you keeping in the 125 and 55?

any idea on how the disease got into both tanks? were canal fish introduced to both systems or a common net was used?

sounds like what i delt with last year.... i ended up essentially bombing my tanks with melafix/pima fix at half doses for a few weeks.... doing my regular water changes during that time... I lost some fish, and saved some.... it was nasty.... neither melafix or pima alone worked initially. also our local LFS delt with this mystery disease around the same time and literally lost tanks full of fish. It hit hard and fast, by the time you saw symptoms it was usually 24 hours or less until death. horrible. I did notice increasing temps only made it worse ( that was before i tried med... never use mela/pima with elevated temps)

I may be spelling it incorrectly but what you describe sounds like symptoms of an outbreak of psudonoma.

A few months ago i had a huge columnaris battle. at the same time one of my fish died from stress. Luckily my Oscar survived the columnaris but my common pleco died. I just got costia in one of my aquariums but only 2 tiger barbs died from it an the rest of the fish should live because I treated the aquarium today. Sorry to hear. When your fish died for no reason I thought that it could have been EBJDs because they die a lot for no reason.

Sounds like the acute form of columnaris.

I had 2 beani die of it during a heat wave last summer.
Columnaris is most virulent with temps above 84F, and when most people give advice they suggest raising the temp. This only advances the disease and hastens death. It is an opportunistic bacteria causing an infection that takes hold after stress from another past disease such as ich, or territorial battles or the like.

Thank you all for your help. i did the parasite clear, ive tried salt and a dewormer food. today i did the first water change since the meds have been added. now its a sit and wait to see if anymore fish develop symptoms or die or if i finally did it. as for the lips thing the fish lips dont just swell they also lose color. they essentially look like they locked lip and lost but it has happens on any fish. by the way the fish im dealing with are my sa/ca cichlids. but i have lost other fish and my lungifsh has even been effected with the patchy symptom i mentioned before he got instantly better as soon as i added the parasite clear though. anything else i should try? im willing to keep bombing with anything useful.
