First off, hi everyone! I didn't want to necro the old thread, but thank you everyone for all of your support, I may have kind of gone on hiatus, but I did read the responses. Kind of went through a bit of a depression over everything, but you'll (hopefully) all be happy to know that I've recovered well, my lifting capacity is still lower than it was, but I'm getting better all the time. Polys are on a sump exclusively and are doing fine and without the pain of trying to hoist an FX6 with a bad back D:

Everyone is doing well, except for one of my CB Teugs who randomly went from normal, to floating tail up, to dead in less than 12 hours. I don't know much of it's history so it's hard to say what the cause of death was, but everybody else is growing like weeds and doing well, especially since I've moved back to feeding tons of tilapia.

My fish room has even gotten a bit more populated, with the addition of some axolotls, a lesser siren, and a couple aquatic turtles... the zoo continues to expand :)

I hope everyone else is doing well, and you should all be seeing a lot more of me now!

I'll have to take some new videos and update everybody, maybe tonight after the feeding frenzy :)

Hey brother ! I was gone too for a while. How are you recovering ? ... i may be heading under the knife again myself.

Looking forward to some pics

Doing well! I pretty much am never in pain anymore, unless I lift something too heavy, or toss my daughter around too much, both of which are unavoidable when A) You have a kid and B) You have a fish hobby lol. Getting up in the morning can be a bit of a chore since the back stiffens up while I sleep, especially if I overdo it the day before, but I'm not taking any meds, or even ibuprofen anymore... trying to cut off some excess weight too to reduce as much strain as on my back as possible. Everything has healed up well though, and I can do 90% of the stuff I used to do and am getting stronger all the time. Hopefully it'll be a while before I have to get anything else done, but only time will tell!

I'm definitely rooting for you, man, I hope if you do have to go under again that it's as painless a process as possible, or at the very least, you come out better than before you went in!

Bilateral lamenectomy and microdiscectomy of the l4 and l5, also something with the s1 but it's all such a blur.

Sump is fantastic, only complaint is lack of bottom draw but the ridx seems to break things down pretty fast, I usually don't see any mess. Now I'm not sure how I'm gonna effectively sump the turtle tank D:

Dont know if you remember but i had the exact same surgery on L4L5 and L5S1.

BE VERY CAREFUL DO NOT GET OVER CONFIDENT AND OVER DO IT. I did and re-herniated everything... lol ithink im going to have to have a cervical fusion though. Just need to figure out when with my wife prego and dur in march

Ahhaha sump the turtle tank you can def do it. Whats the concern is it glass ?

Yeah definitely trying to keep myself out of trouble... For 2 months I basically did nothing physical at all, doc gave me permission to lift up to 40lbs and I've been pretty good about staying well under that lol.

Due in March? Wow my wife is due in Feb, we're actually waiting around the docs office now (which answers why there's no pics yet lol)

I managed to find a 110 acrylic tank on CL that I'm cleaning up for the turtles, it's overflowed since it was a reef tank, just concerned about getting waste into the overflow, since turtle waste sinks and overflow just skims the surface. But I'm definitely going to go wet dry for those guys

Hahah im in the same place withy wife atm !

Maybe you can drill the overflow and have the return come out of the bottom pushing debris up or check out lock lones you can direct the flow

That's hilarious, it's like we're living the same life hahaha I had to wrap up posting because she was giving me the stinkeye for being antisocial :o

Worried about having a submerged return because I'll either lose a ton of pressure by putting an elbow at the top to make a siphon break, or have it siphon out when the power goes off, I was considering cutting down the existing overflow from the bottom and adding an inner one so it would draw from the bottom on one side of the overflow and from the top on the sides but I have no idea how effective that is. I know they manage this kind of stuff for hydroponics, but it doesn't seem to be very popular in aquaria. Maybe a powerhead near the bottom (or 2, or 3) to keep the bottom of the tank constantly circulating so the crud gets suspended and eventually breaks up and ends up in the overflows? Stand is coming today so I'll be able to vinegar bathe it to get all the coraline calcium stuff off the sides of the tank, so that's pretty exciting, might be able to have them in their new tank Sunday or Monday depending on how that goes!
