Hahaha yeah I read up on that too, at one point I was considering trying a fluidized sand filter, but those things can be lethal if your power goes out for too long, you also have to make sure they stay tweaked properly so the sand stays fluidised, and I just don't want to be fine tuning something like that with any level of frequency. Ditto here, never had to mess with the stuff... started with DIY spraybars, now I've got a hard plumbed sump and working on setting up one for the turtle tank as well. I'll be a pro someday! Just too paranoid to go too far out of the box... don't need the wife outlawing my hobby due to a huge leak, we already had a 220g leak at the seams and I was lucky enough to be home to prevent a disaster D:
So decent trade off for them!
