Lol well the plan is to build something more permanent out of much heavier materials... this thing is just sort of the perpetual placeholder. But when I do that I'll have the light mounted inside the lid so there won't be anything in the way at all... or at least that's the plan for now So far no one has really attempted to smash into the lid, though the big endli splashes water everywhere whenever he comes up for a breath haha

I'm using a new light I built with 2 tubes and a reflector, really bright but my knives don't like it so much, oops.

So bright light brings out the colour in polys?

Not really, it really depends on the substrate, bright loght makes them green.

I thonk its lighting and substrate... paint the bottom you always cover with with sand later. I like how the red looks

Painting the tank isn't an option for me since I have nowhere else for the fish. I'm leaning towards black sand at this point

Yeah just throw something in there you can always change it later on. Can you get red sand ? Either way i would stick with a sand over gravel. Way less work and if your dosing ridx or a similar product almost no work lol

I tried gravel, never again lol.

I have never seen red sand for sale, I wonder how my knives would look over it

+1 none of my tanks will have gravel...ever. my wc's consist of me droping a hose in my tank and basically walking away.
