Hello All... I know its been TOO LONG since i've been on here... but i'm back and with a new project... I still have my RTC and he's well over 24'' and in need of a new home...

He's currently in a 400g with the same arowana and marbled cat... and he's just started behaving aggresively towards the others... so its time to step up and get him a bigger home.

I'm looking for ideas on heating and filtration.

I'm a firm believer in DIY, wet dry filters.

Heres the plan. your input is greatly appreciated.

Pond = 970 gallons
Resident= 1 RTC
Filtration= TBD
GPH= TBD (approx 2500-5000gph)
Heating= TBD (thinking 3 Jager 250w)

I think i'll leave it above ground and surround the pond with decorative bricks...

If you guys know where I can save a penny on equipment that would be awesome aswell.

Thanks!!

What would you suggest is adequate gph or turnover for 1rtc in 970 gallons?... Im thinking a mag drive 24 will suffice...

I see you have a pair of the very rare and elusive "boxer fish". Very nice :thumbsup:.

Good luck on the setup. A DIY filter would give you the most bang for your buck. Run it off a used (if you can find one) Reeflo Hammerhead or something similar.

For heaters, I'd go for a 1kw titanium heater with controller over multiple smaller units.

Well, the reeflo's would have to be used externally, meaning bulkheads in your sump, which could be difficult depending on the container you use.

The mag 24 you could just drop in the bottom of the sump and not worry about using bulkheads.

If its just the redtail cat, I would think so. If you plan on adding anything else, then you may want to go with a larger pump or add a second one later.

Good thinking... Then ill just take my spare 55g and convert it into a w/d... ill just copy the 2 others I've made...
