I'm building a tank too!! 500+ Gal ply

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The problem is not knowing where it's leaking from on the inside! On one end it was isolated to a small area and on the other end most of the bottom edge was wet so it was impossible to tell where the water was coming from in both cases.

So, today's work so far has been putting the metal 2x6 straps on the cross bracing so as not to trust on the screws alone and putting on the third coat of ABM. Oh, you wanted a picture of that... ?

3/4". Thought I covered that in the beginning. Anyway, slow progress unfortunately. I only waited about 3 days letting the Blue Max cure. It wasn't enough with the cooler temps. I got bubbling in the rubber and had to drain, peel, and now have a space heater inside the tank to get the curing done better. Next up after it's thoroughly dry will be to patch the areas I peeled and/or cut back and use the space heater to get a proper FULL cure before filling again. At least it held water without leaks this time!!

Ah, it's nice not to have a beautiful build. Nobody bothers you!

Anyway, cold weather sucks. Want my first piece of advice? Build while it is warm! Waiting for things to cure, drying things out, working with epoxy and caulk, it all sucks in cold weather.

What has been happening... I got the tank 3/4 filled and heard a couple of pops. Managed to burst the silicon in assorted places along the bottom. Switching to 5200. Completely pulled the window out, scraped the tank edges down where the window was mounted and have since put on Max ACR. So far it's impressive when dry. The BlueMax was a mess for me. I really suck on putting things on smooth so the bubble and creases caused issues. I have been flattening everything out to get a proper seal. I want the next fill to be "the" fill so I can start heating and filtration. Barely have a month before the baby comes so fingers crossed!

sweet project! wish i had the guts to try something like this lol!
