Depending on the size of tank.
20G-30G. Erythrinus Erythinus 'Rainbow Wolf' or Erythinus Sp. Peru, Ery Ery is very out going and will max out about 8". Sp. Peru is a little shy. You will be able to keep other fish with either of these as long as they are not food sized or other wolves.
80G-100G+. Hoplias Malabaricus. or Hoplias Sp. Xingu Black, You will be doing well to get the Mala to 15"-16". The Xingu will probably hit 13" but as already mentioned it is expensive compared to the Malabaricus.
180G. There is another Black variant that has come from Venezuala. I am pretty sure they have a wider distribution. It is suggested that it reaches the upper 20's". This is also an expensive fish.
250G-300G+. Hoplias Lacerdae and Hoplias Aimara. Both have the potencial to get 30"+, Lacerdae are cheaper, Aimara are very expensive and very rarely available at a small size.
None of them are difficult to look after. The only fussy eater I have had is the Xingu Black that goes through periods of only eating one type of food then goes off it and onto another item for a couple of months. I would love to get an Aimara but none are available in the UK.
