Careful though, they have been known to be so powerful that they will suck sand even through a prefilter. If this is the case you may have to throw it in the dump and go with a Whisper filter instead :D

This man speaks the truth.

And no one said I went with Whisper. :nilly:

I just said I'd take one over a stupid AC dumpster decoration. Although at this point I am swearing off HOB filters forever, I had to unplug one of my stupid Bio Wheel filters last night. I was trying to fall asleep and I could hear the cover or impellar something buzzing, it was driving me bananas. :screwy:

It wasn't near as loud as the AC110s death scream it was doing prior to it's visit to Mr. Trash Can, but still I demand silence aside from water sounds.

So it looks like I need to order another canister for my 29g in my room and ditch the last 2 BioWheel HOB's I am using on it.

Rena XP series for life! (I do want to try an Fx5 though)

when you say " jammed a pen" where exactly did you jam this pen? My ac 110 died after sand got sucked into it

down into the propeller, I took the input tube off, I could touch the propeller with my finger and tell it had power but was not spining so I pushed a pen in there and it came back to life and started making a lot of noise for a minute untill I got the tube back on and put some more water in it. Then it was fine. My ac100s allways sound bad " clank, click," unless I turn down the flow.

I should have taken it apart and cleaned it but I was being lazy.

give the impellter a flick with you finger. that should get it spinning again.

a burned out aquaclear is a very very rare thing. some of mine are 15 years old and counting..
:iagree:

Seems like you have already done that though =D
I had an AC for over 10 years...still running strong. Recently replaced a sponge on it...it was disintegrating.

Although one of my filters makes some noise...can't make it stop.

I've got an old AC50 that occasionally doesn't start up again after power-outages. I take the motor off and rinse it out; that works.
