So my Oscars and I were finally gelling. I bought a better filter water was clearing ich was clearing life was good. I came home from work only to find a heater malfunction had fried my fish. The thing was set at 82° and the mercury thermometer read 112°. I am in shock and my feelings are so hurt. People told me my first batch of fish would probably die. I might have been ok if I killed them. But the dog gone heater did them in?? Grrrrrr

Sorry for your loss. BTW do fish look any different if their killed by a malfunctioning heater, or do they just look like they died. Sorry its a really dumb question but I've always been curious.

yeah all my tanks and hardware i bought used. The only thing i dont buy used is heaters. One used heater busted and killed my feederfish, since then i consider headers to be the biggest danger. It sucks and i feel bad that your heater busted, alot of them break then fry tank. I use 2 for each tank and make sure that one alone can not overheat my tank. Ex. i have 2 100wats on my 40 gallon, instead of 1 200wat.

Sorry for your loss better luck next time

What kind of heater was it? You MAY be entitled to some sort of compensation from the heater company, it's not unheard of but don't expect anything.

Unfortunately of the my three only one floated to the top. And that one actually was starting to wither. The layers of it were peeling away.

And I was using an Elite55 200w. It came with the tank as did the filter that just stopped working over the weekend. I guess you can never be sure what you're getting but I probably wont ever by a "furnished" aquarium again...
