I have always used Ebo-Jagers and they have never failed on me *knock on wood* Of course, in the summer I don't keep them in the tanks because the house is never below 76.
Well before you decide to put anything in there, wait a couple days make sure that Ich has died off. Throw some food in the tank and make sure it stays cycled. I would go with something you won't have to move because it gets too big.
A great way to really learn about american Cichlids is get about 4-6 Convicts. As they grow, pick out a male and a female and remove the rest. Just keep the pair together and nothing else. Stick a flower pot in there. Cons are hardy, tough, easy to breed and usually have a great personality. Then get yourself a big tank like a 125 or so and then get your Oscars. It will look funny to have a few small O's in a big tank, but won't take long before they grow into it. Add a couple cats or something and you'll have a nice tank for the next 15 years or so.
