I'm done with live plants in my tank. No matter what type I get and how long I keep the light on or what additives I put in, I cannot keep the plants alive! They always seem to die off and even the swords fade away! What am I doing wrong? I dont see how that $25 a bag substrate would help. I guess I can add another light. I'm using a standard one bulb florecent light right now. I know it's not the fish. Any advise would be great...Thanks

What type of lighting are you using? I would go with low level lighting plants like anubius and java.

Plants are water quality sensitive to.. heat and ph.

yeah i just are just using the standard bulb that comes with more hoods your not benifiting your plants at all

Ph is whatever the tap is and heat is at 82 degrees. Yeah it is the standard hood.

Not to sound like an ass, but it sounds like you haven't really tried too hard on keeping your plants alive. We now know what kind of lighting you're using and that you have no idea of your watar params. What kind of substrate are you using and are you using any co2?

Lack of lighting, ferts, co2, and good substrate are probably your problems. For a low light tank I would recommend 2w/gallon. For a high light tank, 5w/gallon. Many plants are grown out of the water, with roots submerged, and the result is when you submerge the leaves they die. Amazon swords are one of the common plants this happens too. THe leaves grown out of the water, and grown in the water are completely different. For cheap CO2, a 2 liter bottle, sugar, water, silicone tubing and a power head will work. For ferts you should try Greg watson's dry ferts, they are cheap, and really effective.

Hey thanks WyldFya for the info...and thanks for pointing me in the right direction instead of just bashing me. If I have any more questions I know who to ask. I think I may just take a break on them seeing as though I just wanted to use them for hidding spots for feeders. I'll just stick to fake plants till I can get the better lighting, substrate, and co2 system.

Check your water and lighting make sure lightin is right.:D :D

I'll check the water cause I know it use to be nuetral but I have peat fiber in the filter now so it should be lower. I dont know what would be right for lighting in a 20 gallon. I know I should get a better light but should it be the 80 dollar one or the 350 dollar one? LFS guys say 350...shocking huh?
