Extremely excited....the wife ok'd the purchase of my first monster tank (well monster for me). I am trying to decide between a 125g and a 150g. Price difference isn't that much and room isn't a problem either. Haven't had this many gallons to work with before so any tips you can suggest would be greatly appreciated. I have no experience with a sump so would two cannisters be enough to filter this bad boy and if so, what brands do you recommend. I have multiple LFS around me so availability shouldn't be an issue either.

I am thinking of going with a sand substrate with holy rock and driftwood. Currently I have an african cichlid tank (55g), a blood parrot tank (75g), brackish tank (40g), and a Fluval Edge. I was thinking of doing a Discus tank in the projected 125/150 but I am also thinking that my parrots might need a bigger tank to move into.

Stocking suggestions, or any suggestions at all are welcomed. It is going to take me awhile to get this set up completely, so keep the posts coming.:headbang2

Thanks,
Jeremy

I vote 150, only because I would kick myself for not going bugger when I had the chance to. That's just the way I think, I currently have a 75G and kick myself for not buying the 90G when I was debating it. Good Luck!

I had a similar choice as you do, i took my 125 just because i liked its dimensions more, it being a 6' tank made it for me, i felt it is more visually pleasing then the cube like 150 i could have gotten(no disrespect to those with 150's, i will take one any day now that i have my 6' tank) however i do not know if a discus are territorial and i am not sure if you have a liking for longer tanks as i do. my 125 is filtered with 2 emperor 400's and a fluval fx5, i want to get another canister filter just for superior filtration.. but mine work well still.. anyways, goodluck with the whatever you end up choosing, and welcome to 3-digit tank club:D

Thanks for the response. My wife is actually pushing for the 150 saying this is the last tank I can get but I haven't completely decided. Not sure on the discus yet, they are pretty pricey and seem to be very delicate. I also have some grow outs in my other tanks that need to move on to bigger waters so I might just do that. Thanks again for the advice!

go 150....same footprint.

Well I guess I am going 150!! Now to figure out where to move everyone around. I currently have my jewel cichlids (4) and blood parrots (4) in the 75g so I think its time for them to be upgraded. Then I need to move my large africans out of my 55 to the 75 which leaves my 55gal open for stocking, and some room in the 150.

go 150, overfilter the hell out of it, make it look pretty, and get the discus, which are some really pretty fish. get the live plants, make sure it looks great.

your wife will fall inlove with it, and that may be the last tank you ever get, but shell be buying a 300gal in the next month
