So I went to petsmart in Signal Hill, Ca to hop on the Rena XP deal. They had 3 XP3's on the floor. All of the boxes were marked as store 96 and online price 104.99$.
So I go up to the register and talk to the manager. I asked him why the boxes are all beat up. He said the boxes just get tossed around some times, but everything is NEW. So I was like okay.... he opened it up and showed me the parts. Everything looked new, so I was like okay I'll buy it. Came out to be 77.49$ + tax 6.39 = $83.88. So I went home and decided to look at it more in depth.
I opened the top and flipped it and noticed that the "O" seal had a rip in it. I also noticed that their was crust on it. I opened the middle where the impeller goes and found more crust, and noticed that the impeller was used.
I quickly drove back to the store and talked to the manager. I said why did you sell me something used when you told me it was new. He said how do I know that you didn't switch the top. That just pissed me off. I asked to see the other 2 XP3's on the store floor. He said it's not necessary to see them. So I said well I'm going to. He said you can't. I was like WTF I'm a customer. So he called over his aquatics guy and told him to take them off the shelf. I took a look at another one, it didn't look as bad as mine, but looked like there was a tiny bit of water in it. So they were definitely used.
The manager accused me of trying to buy 3 of them in the past. I'm like WTF I just came right now. My first time being here. I said check your cameras. Show me that I came here 3 times. He said no. I was like then WTF are you talking about. He said we have been tracking the RENA's and seeing who buys them from what stores. He was being a total dick.
So whatever, I returned it and said I will call corporate.
The main point is that I don't want other consumers buying these USED XP models thinking they are new, when there used.
So I got home and corporate was closed, so I called another department to make a claim. The lady told me that I am right and that he shouldn't be lying and trying to sell it new. She also told me that he shouldn't be accusing me of trying to buy 3 of them. So basically now I have to wait for corporate to call me back, which she said will probably be on Monday.
I hope this (*&#%(*&#%(* gets fired.
