I'm getting a 55 gallon any stocking suggestions??

Im starting to think maybe dats and clown loaches rather than breeding. how many dats and loaches would live comfortable in a 55g??

none. The smallest dat (Silver) gets upto 12-13" IIRC and I've seen some monster clown loaches that neighbor 12 inches as well. I wouldn't go with either unless I had a bigger tank to put them in when they got adult sized.

I would go with a simple, planted tank and a Rainbow Wolf (Ery. ery) possibly even two if you could get yourself a nicely drilled piece of plexiglass to separate them.

think jag only max size 12" and a whole lot better looking

I have to agree with the african idea,get some yellows and reds and just breed them and they are very good looking!
