but would i not need the skimmer until it is done cycling??

nope no skimmer even if you put it in it wont do anything. other then strip the water of nutrients. as soon as there is bio load in the tank then install it

yeah all i use is koralia but the nano is a little small for your 30. I use a koralia #1 in my 15 and if i were you i would use 2 koralia #1's on either side of the take to create some turbulance.
