When I'm dead, you can talk about whether or not I was right.

Food science will rage like never before. I was in on the early 1970's efforts to reform food production tech.

I'm predicting that because of the continuing demand for all kinds of meat, and the increasing cost of production, and the competition from non-meat protein foods, that research into new methods and products in animal husbandry biz will be fueled by the influence of big money. The same in non-meat imitations, and distinctly new protein products.

Other than health care, I see this as The Big Thing in the years to come.

I mean my mother suggested that if it does get to that a few of my fishies may disappear.:jaw-dropp.

It’s not like that here yet, but I haven’t been able to get out to buy worms and live insects for my Oscar fish. I have been feeding him excess guppies and mollies.

I can’t sell the guppies and Mollies right now so the only thing to do is feed the Oscar.

I predict insects will be a big part of protein based foods in the future. The resources required to get a kilo of cricket protein against a kilo of beef protein is only a fraction of water, feed and energy required.
They would probably have to process them so they dont look like bugs for the squeamish western tastes. Maybe if the kardashians or some similar fools start endorsing them as a miracle weight loss product they might take off.
Also use of the whole beast should come back into style, if everyone starts eating offal and less common cuts of meat there's less waste and more profit.

What is true of crickets is even more true of simple algae and yeast.
Pet food from insects and offal is no issue for me.
Humans deserve better.

GMO food is the future and humans will deal with it.
What will people grow on mars? Is there enough water to even grow algae?

Food science will expand to the needs of off-world habitation.

I don't know, some offal is pretty tasty. Try a steak and kidney pie or some French food and it's actually good. Same with bugs, a lot of Asian countries eat them, a nice skewer of satay crickets or a black pudding sounds more appealing to me than an algae patty or something genetically modified to replicate "real" meat.
That's the point I was making about western tastes, there's a lot more of a cow that can be eaten than what we see in the supermarket.
Either way, what we are doing now is unsustainable and something will change either for environmental or profit reason.

The average guy will never own a car.
Speeds over 60 mph will never be sustainable.
Ordinary consumers are never going to want a home computer!
Hmmmmm....

We learn things, and life changes. Look at what we've learned thru history, and know that all these gloomy predictions rely on a world that doesn't improve in some unknowable way.

Yet this has always happened throughout history. We drive things on.
Why should it stop because of this crisis or that shortage?

I think we can make better food for cows and other animals, which will bring the situation into more favorable light.
I guarantee you scientists around the world are working on better animals, feed, etc, perhaps even more than those working on veggie based non-meat meat.

BTW, did you ever cook a kidney? My great granny used to cook them for her dog.
The dog was quite healthy.
The whole kitchen stunk for 2 days.

Ever watch someone make chitlins?
That's some stanky chit mon . . .
It's enough to make one swear off food completely from the smell.

People along the Ohio river used to cook some strange things.
I saw folks in town cook possum and tan the skins.
In a frakin apartment building!

I'm hoping civilization will lift us above such needs.
