The goetta sounds good, sort of like a black pudding but I think I would give the cchitlins a miss, don't sound very appetising. I'd try grits if I was in the US, aren't they normally a side dish with bacon and eggs or something?
I actually made Quaker Oats for breakfast today, bit of honey and they aren't bad.
As Australia is a fairly young country we don't have that tradition of old foods unless immigrants bring it with them. Generally people have conservative tastes here, most people won't even eat kangaroo even though it's very healthy and quite tasty. When a resteraunt recently pit horse meat on the menu they got death threats and took it off as people were so outraged. It's strange someone will happily eat a cute little lamb but threaten to kill a chef for cooking a horse.
I enjoy trying weird foods but my wife is very uptight, it leads to arguments when on holiday as she always wants to eat western food in the hotel restaurant and I want to hit the markets to eat with the locals.
