ive had my tank set up for about 6-7 monmths and i have to clean my tank of the algea sort of every 3-4 days and its not a slight bit of algea its to the point i cant really see the fish my nitrate levels are at 10 but i do a 12% water change every week
where am i going wrong?
ive taken the carbon and the charcoal out of my external filter and its still the same
also its got about a 3 inch sand bed which i clean every water change
any one got any tips for me?
cheers

You might try reducing your photo period but without knowing what you are keeping in your tank it's hard to narrow down your problem. Could be lighting.

ive had 2 clowns 2 anenomes 1 pulsing xenia 1 small mushroom boxer shrimp and a sand sifting star fish oh and a dragon wrasse my lights are on for about 13.5 hours a day

try a pleco, try 2 plecos, try 3 plecos, if that doesnt work try, algea drops, less light, aquariam salt

can you get marine pleco's?
the closest thing ive seen to that is a scooter blennie
how many hours should my lights be on for about ?

yeah i would say the pleco's not goin to work........What kind of filtration do you have for the tank and do you use tap water for water change?

no normally salted ro but my hydrometer was reading sort of 1.030 because i kept adding salted so ive used ro for the past 3 odd weeks and its come down to 1.024
i use a fluval 305 filter , not too sure makes and models on my protein skimmer an power head
i know the protein skimmer is a good one tho

if your developing algae within 3-4 days enough to where u cant see your fish, thats crazy. I would of thought you were using regular tap causing it because of phosphates. Have u tested the ro water?

ive never thought to test water . i buy it from a trusted lfs though , fella knows what he's doing, i feed them once a day with a brine shrimp cube(which i dont rinse)
and then a few flakes later on
no snails , just a sand sifting star fish a hermit crab and a boxer shrimp
checked my phosphates last night and they were about 1.0(didnt realise i had a phosphates test kit)
