I'm having my drawbacks with the idea of keeping Oscars :(

They will attack anything that comes into their territory when they are in spawning mode. They are great fish to watch as parents.

As I said in my other thread, I might go back to the idea of keeping oscars after hearing about convicts and the way they can beat up fish twice there size.

Why not look at a green terror or a Texas and maybe a pleco and a bichir?

I think the idea of convicts in a large tank as your primary 'show' fish is a total waste. They would be little and have no impact. They are cool and have their place but I would still look at something bigger to fill the role of the main show fish. Oscars are big, ugly, messy fish. That being said I love mine. He is an easygoing community fish with a very outgoing personality. He always draws attention because of being the biggest fish in the tank and thats saying he is only 8" in a 210g! The only other fish that steals his thunder is my flagtail just because of color. I would totally go with the Oscar.

If they are pellet trained, Yes they can be messy. Feed them crays, Feeders, Or worms. Much cleaner.
