Well, I pretty much would like to hear some suggestions for a cat that would work good in an 8x2 footprint. I'm picking the tank up sunday, but have a 55, 150 and 180 to grow the fish out in until I get the tank ready. I was thinkg about a hystrix or 2 but would like a little more aquascaped tank, and that would cut down on the rays swimming area too much. Some things that I have considered:

Rtcs- too big I know
TSNs- too big as well
RTCxTSN- too big
Lima- I had one that got eaten and didn't like how it stood on its head

Any ideas?

i have a spotted pictus and had a cory cat and they seemed to do the job pretty well. the largest tank they were in were a 90gal with 2 1ft long oscars and then in the same tank later with a few dempseys and a huge red belly pacu

i hope you have a larger tank in store for that "huge red belly pacu", a 90 wont do it any justice.:irked:

anyways, the 8x2 footprint gives you space for a catfish less than 2 ft, how a bout
Ageneiosus marmoratus
Leiarius pictus
Ompok bimaculatus
Schilbe mystus
Horabagrus brachysoma
these stay under 2 ft.
i might suggest a Brachyplatystoma tigrinum but they get to 2 ft tho
and all the info you need at http://www.planetcatfish.com/

That is a pretty cool looking cat wonword! I would like the cat to be sout/central america. I'm pretty sure the tig is , what about that pictus?

I'd go with a Leiarius marmoratus rather than L. pictus. L. marmoratus get a bit bigger and have a more appealing body shape, imo (L. marmoratus may be a bit too big for an 8x2 footprint though, I'm not sure).

Both Leirius pictus and Leiarius marmoratus are from South America.
