There are several automatic feeders out there. NutraMatic is battery powered and feeds i think 2x a day and Rondomatic is electrical and feeds up to 5x a day, it costs alot but it dispenses all kinds of stuff from flakes to medicine. The NutraMatic costs, I think around $15. It looks like a slide show carousel.
:-) Maybe on your trip you can pick one up (-:
 get one of these...... plus put in enough feeders. :naughty:

I have lft fish unfed longer than that with no losses, water change and good feed feed before you go is safer than having a well meaning but maladroit friend over feed them.

another thing to think about when away -is filtration (maybe a good idea to have someone come and check daily) .I went on vacation for 7 days had my non fishkeeping husband feed my fish (with detailed instructions taped to each tank)but they managed to knock the intake off one of my ac 500 filters -result was a filthy tank and 2 dead aros in the freezer when i came home  .Also have had the terrible experience of the electric shutting off while i was at work and then a fluval sucking out 125g of water onto the floor.Id think the automatic feeder would be a good idea to look into -never used one tho.

:iagree: Yeah I dont like the idea of having a friend do it. Anybody I know would prob just dump hand fulls of food in, and then I would come home too tanks of cloudy water and rotton food all over.

Do a water change....then feed the crap out of them, then dump in Ghost shrimp and large livebearers....both of which will last and hide longer than rosies but just dump a ton in and it'll be fine. A few days def. won't hurt them.

I wish I could get some ghost shrimp , but all the stores arround here dont sell.

This is exactly what happened to me. I went on business to arizona and my mom who cares for fish herself almost destroyed my 55 gallon malawi all the fish had bloat. She said she wanted to make sure the catfish got a lot of food :WHOA: I had to do two 50% water changes over the course of three days to get the water semi normal. Then another today and I am still pulling up crap from the gravel.
