This is a fish forum refrain from those type of comments. If you are getting bored and can't do salt maybe it is time to leave the hobby for awhile. The passion may or may not return. I have been doing this for many years and always keep 1 tank and a small 10 galon hospital tank which now house 4 oil cats. I never get tired of the fish as I don't over do it.

Take your fish and advertise them for sale, see if you can do it. Then if you accomplish that, break your tank down and store it where its gonna be easy to get out. Wait a week and then go to a really awesome fish store. See what happens, if you have no desire to run home and set it back up or you have no regret you probably need a break. But just the fact your asking seems to show you may already have some hesitation to not having a fish tank up. Some times I get frustrated or what have you and I can never even post the ads for the fish or tanks that I type up.

Honestly, when I got bored of my frst 46 gallon freshwater tank....I want big for a 72 gallon freshwater...bought all fish imaginable (even stingrays).....then went to fish only with live rock....to reef tank.

If I was you I would change that tank in to a FOWLR, and have Lionfish, moray eels, smallish angelfish/triggers

People say live rock is exspensive...is true however just by dead......nothing wrong with dead and actually it is better in the long run as numerous things follow:

-No worry of hitchhikers (aiptasi anemones big big problem)
-Cost efficent
-In a few months times the rocks became "live"

IMO you could probably set up the FOWDR for under $100- $200 easy with out fish.

Any questions on the possibility of changing your tank into marine let me know, or post it up in the marine section where you will be happily guided.

Happy New Year Everybody

I know what you mean sometimes I don't mess with my fish for long periods and get busy with other things. I still turn on the lights feed them make sure the water level is not to low. There my pets just like my dogs. I don't play with my dogs as much as I used to but I still feed them let them out side run in the yard. I will never stop keeping my fish. When I have a tough stressful day its very relaxing to just sit and watch my fish.

i only said what we're all thinking

iv been interested in midas but they are somewhat hard to comeby here

I would suggest a midas as well. They have such an awesome personality, I have one and a dovii pair as well and the interaction is completely different between the two species. If you don't want to go that route maybe an earth eater tank? They can be absolutly beautiful and you can do some really nice scapes with thier tank. Breeding them is a challenge and can bring in a little cash when you do ;)

I went thru the same thing as you. And I ended up switching my fresh to salt pretty cheap. Long as your not looking to do reef it's pretty cheap and easy, heck almost identical light cycle. If you already have sand substrate, then heck it's even cheaper. For evaporated water you simply replace with RO water. For 1/3 water changes you would need to mix in some more salt, the mix is cheap and easy.

For me it was 15 bucks for a few bags of play sand from Home Depot. Then 25-30 bucks for the salt mix to setup and cycle the 75 with my existing filtration setup. And that was pretty much it. :D

Now the stock, well that depends. It's either cheaper or more expensive depending on how fancy you were with your fresh water. I always stocked common, so salt water is more $ to stock for me. I found a Niger Trigger at the LFS for 29 bucks though, which was not bad. Congo Puffers are only 9-15 bucks also if you can find them in stock. And puffers kick ass. Groupers are cheap and cool also, but they grow into monsters. Just avoid any fish from the Nemo movie, prices for those things quadrupled due to that stinking movie....haha :D

Thanks for the ideas guys, some really great ones.
Well Im definately making a change, all my fish are now for sale except the Jagovii.

I really like fishkeeping so dont want to give it up, not looking to downsize really as i like the tank. Salt is just not of interest to me unless its a reef so currently not an option

Would definately be interested in keeping planted tank as this is something I have not done in years because of keeping large centrals.
Eartheaters tank, discus tank or altum angel tank are what Im thinking at the moment.
